24 hour race for charity

Killamarsh Kestrels Running Club, has organised the race which will take place between 27-28 June 2009.
Members of the local community are being invited to get their running shoes on for charity and take part in a 24 hour relay race
The event, which is raising money for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, will see teams take it in turns to run or walk a lap of Rother Valley. The Killamarsh Kestrels runners will take part throughout the whole 24 hours, with other runners being invited to come down and run as many laps as they can.
Tents and stalls will be erected at the ‘base camp’ site on the day of the event to create a party atmosphere and encourage the runners to keep going throughout the night.
The running club, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, has always raised money for the Children’s Hospital by doing sponsored runs every couple of years. Past achievements have included running to Skegness and back, running coast to coast, and running from Bristol Children’s Hospital to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Jenny Lippitt, who joined the Killamarsh Kestrels 12 years ago, said: “We hope as many people as possible will come down on the day, join or form a team, and run round Rother Valley as many times as possible. There will be a fantastic community atmosphere on the day, as everyone pushes themselves to the limit for charity, and even though it will be hard work, and I will probably run over 30 miles in 24 hours, it will definitely be worth it!”

Hi Jenny,
I was just talking about you, telling everyone in the office what a
great set up you had at the weekend and how well organised it was (and
also how fit you all are!)
Thanks for letting me join you on a lap, I really enjoyed it and if I'd
had the time I'd have come back on Sunday for more!
That's a great total raised on the buckets well done that's fantastic!
I've attached some pictures that I took and I'll get the website updated
also about how the run went.
Hope you get a rest today, don't work too hard!
Best Wishes
Rachel

Well, what a shift this turned out to be, again.
Its a few years since we did any sort of charity fund raising event. It’s a hell of a long time since we did the 24hr round Rother Valley, and there were only a handful of us present at this one, that were involved with the last.
The enthusiasm of you lot is once again outstanding, not only from those stupid enough to volunteer for the full quota, but also those of you who dropped in and did your bit during the daylight hours.
You were brilliant and I am sure the children’s hospital will benefit greatly from all your efforts. From Pete with the tents, Alan with the power and the barbie, Jenny with the contact between club and hospital, and the rest of you that are too many to mention, it was great.........
Mick B ........even more proud
Note: Also the club secretary (Mick B ) put in his bit too!. Alan Chambers
We did a total of 474 laps, equating to 1422 miles, 87 Kestrels took part which is over half the club membership!
Fantastic!
Thanks to all members for your support.
We raised almost £500 from the collecting tins in Rother Valley, which Gina paid in to the bank yesterday. Well done
Jenny
