16.00 - 24rd July 2010: Steve Judge becomes World Champion Para triathlon in Class Tri 3
Judge who grew up in Bawtry and who is now living in Eckington Sheffield was on Saturday crowned ITU World Champion Para triathlon at the world Championships meet held in Hyde Park London.
Judge who has been training seriously for just 18 months said “Becoming world Champion is a great feeling and makes the six day a week training regime I have followed for the 18 months.” He added, “ It was difficult to keep going through the recent hard winter but I stuck at it and attained my goal”
Judge beat competitors who had travelled from as far as Australia, Canada, France and Brazil, America and Germany to compete in the prestigious Hyde Park event.
In 2002 Judge’s life was turned upside down when he was involved in a near fatal car accident in Sheffield. While he pulled through, one knee was shattered and the other leg remained in traction for over a year. Fighting back from his accident Steve set a number of progressive goals all designed to get physically stronger and compete as a paratriathlete.
While Judge had always been a keen runner and sports man it took his accident to catapult him onto the world stage. Along the way to becoming ITU World Champion Steve won the 2009 British Paratriathlete gold medal and just last month was became ITU European silver medallist at the Athlone event held in the Republic of Ireland.
Steve commented on his personnel journey over the last eight years: “If you have dream, that is your goal. Work towards your goal”
